ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Parents have a chance to get help making sure their child’s car seat is properly installed this weekend. UPMC Altoona will be doing car seat safety checks Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the old Kopp Drug building on Howard Avenue. The event is free and anyone can stop by to have one of the hospital’s police officers make sure your child’s seat is properly secured and correctly fitted for their size. They also check for any recalls or damage.

(WTAJ) — With summer heat hitting Central Pennsylvania, many people will be hitting the pool. While swimming is a great way to keep your kids cool and for them to get some exercise, there are still some safety tips that every parent should keep in mind. Each year, around 350 children under age 15 die from drowning in swimming pools, making it the second–leading cause of injury–related deaths in children, and the leading cause of death among children ages one to four.

(WTAJ) — Johnstown celebrated Juneteenth Thursday with a parade, live music and a proclamation by the mayor recognizing the positive impacts of Johnstown’s Black community. “Johnstown City Council is grateful for the African American community and their contributions in making our city excellent. We commit to creating a more united, equal, and just home for all,” Mayor Frank Janakovic said.
