TEWKSBURY — Students from the John F. Ryan Elementary School were recognized recently for their participation in the Patriot’s Pen essay contest, a scholarship program of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The annual essay contest focuses on the topics of democracy and patriotism and the vision of that ideal from the perspective of young students. The contest was established in 1947 and provides opportunities students to win money for college.

TEWKSBURY — For the third year in a row, Tewksbury has earned Tree City Status from the Arbor Day Foundation. As part of this new designation, the Tewksbury Garden Club has continued its collaboration with the Tewksbury Public Library and celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, April 25. The day was recognized with the addition of two native plantings, a flowering dogwood tree and sweet pepperbush shrubs, to last year’s Arbor Day tulip and black gum trees on the library grounds.

TEWKSBURY — Despite the rain, Tewksbury residents came out on Saturday to participate in the spring town clean up, hosted by the Tewksbury Beautification Committee and the Open Space and Recreation Plan Committee. The clean ups, started in 2015, focus on removing trash from Tewksbury’s streets, waterways, open spaces and trails. This year, residents picked up bags at the DPW then set out to clean areas that could use a refresher from the winter.

It’s 1775 and the local militia have been alerted by Paul Revere and William Dawes that British regulars are marching toward Concord to take control of stockpiled munitions. Their route takes them right down Massachusetts Avenue, into Lexington, where a group of minutemen, presented with the dilemma of flee or fight, choose to stand their ground and defend their liberty.
