AbstractAdrenal Cushing represents 20% of cases of endogenous hypercorticism. Unilateral cortisol-producing adenoma (CPA), a benign tumor, and adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), a malignant tumor, are more frequent than bilateral adrenal nodular diseases (primary bilateral macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (PBMAH) and primary pigmented nodular adrenal disease (PPNAD)). In cortisol-producing adrenal tumors, the signaling pathways mainly altered are the protein kinase A and Wnt/β-catenin pathways.

SummaryRegardless of microbial virulence (i.e., the global infection-fatality ratio), age generally drives the prevalence of death from infection in unvaccinated humans. Four mortality patterns are recognized: the common U- and L-shaped curves of endemic infections and the unique W- and J-shaped curves of pandemic infections. We suggest that these patterns result from different sets of human genetic and immunological determinants.

Cognitive remediation (CR) is an effective therapy for the cognitive impact of mental illness, especially schizophrenia. Global efforts are being made to implement CR into routine mental health services with the aim of improving functional outcomes for the population of people recovering from mental illness. Implementation and dissemination of CR in heterogeneous settings require knowledge gleaned from formal implementation research and pragmatic experiential learning.
