Early on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 15, halfway through Black History Month, an email pings the inboxes of those who signed up to attend the Hey, Black Seattle! Coffee Shop Meetup Tour at The Station in Beacon Hill. In it, founder Kiesha B. Free encourages participants to show up and be "part of the movement." As an extra incentive, the first person from the RSVP to arrive gets their coffee on Kiesha.

The space inside The Triple Door crackled with the excitement of a crowd on edge waiting for the first performer of the night. The air was filled with joy, unapologetic celebration, and sensuality. At the final sold-out night of the third-annual Fatlesque Fest Northwest, emcee Alotta Boutté guided the crowd through the evening, teasing them with jokes, poking fun with suggestive innuendo, and encouraging roaring applause as panty bosses collected tips.

Seattle has a history of embracing plant-based eating and dining long before it became mainstream. However, the city's most lauded vegan restaurants are clustered in central neighborhoods, like Capitol Hill or Ballard, leaving those in South Seattle with fewer choices. Moe Vegan — a restaurant that evolved from a food truck and catering business — recently opened in Kent to fill that void. From the moment I heard about Moe Vegan, I was intrigued.

After receiving her first cancer diagnosis more than 20 years ago, Bridgette Hempstead turned hardship into a lifeline for others. As she navigated the health care system, she faced numerous systemic challenges to her cancer diagnosis and treatment. Determined to create a solution, she founded Cierra Sisters, a groundbreaking nonprofit that assists Black women navigating cancer.

On a chilly Thursday evening during the Pioneer Square Art Walk, Creative Justice held the first of three events commemorating a decade of serving youth by addressing the systemic issues that face oppressed youth.
