    When a fierce fire took told at part of the Green King brewery more than 45 years ago, Robert Robertson grabbed his camera to capture the moment. More than 40 firemen tackled the blaze at the Bury St Edmunds brewery’s electrical and paint store, in Crown Street, on the evening of Wednesday, August 1, 1979. Robert, who worked as a cleaner, sugar man and miller at the brewhouse, helped put some hoses out of the window to help the firefighters which included Greene King’s own fire brigade.

    Two leaders with a ‘wealth of knowledge and experience’ have been appointed to executive roles at a hospital trust. Dan Spooner takes up the post of executive chief nurse at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (WSFT), while Julie Hull joins as interim executive director of workforce and communications.     A hot ember from a chimney was the most likely cause of a fire which ripped through five homes in a village. A thatch roof blaze decimated five terraced properties in Low Street, Bardwell, on April 19. Following an investigation, a fire service spokesperson said the most probable cause was a hot ember from the chimney igniting the dry thatch.

    Works to repair a gas pipe in a Bury St Edmunds road have been completed after more than two weeks but another leak has been found nearby. Cadent has been carrying out work in Newmarket Road, with temporary traffic lights at the junction with Western Way, which were initially due to be removed on Friday, April 25. Following delays, the repairs have been completed but another leak has been found in Western Way.
