    Signs have been placed warning motorists not to use narrow one-way Bury St Edmunds residential streets as cut-throughs during a road closure — but a councillor says more needs to be done. The ‘residents access only’ signage has been installed at the Ipswich Street entrance to Peckham Street and the St Andrew’s Street North entrance to St John’s Place as traffic including lorries has been cutting through to avoid the closure of Tayfen Road.

    Changes have been agreed to a district’s waste and recycling collection services for households. The move by Braintree District Council will allow residents to recycle more at kerbside from June 1, next year. From then, kerbside waste and recycling collections will include a weekly food waste collection, an alternate fortnightly collection of paper and card, an alternate fortnightly collection of glass bottles and jars, metals, plastics including plastic and film and food and drink cartons.

    Everyone’s favourite bear in Bury St Edmunds has received a bit of TLC. The popular Paddington statue at arc Shopping Centre received a fresh lick of paint on Friday. The sculpture was unveiled in October as part of Paddington Visits, a trail of Paddington Bear statues in locations across the UK and Ireland to celebrate the arrival of Paddingon In Peru in cinemas. Allan Hassell, centre manager, said Paddington was in need of a little TLC, as he was proving to be as popular as ever.

    A prominent town centre shop which was home to one of the oldest businesses in Bury St Edmunds has been sold. Agents Hazells has confirmed the sale of the former Sneezums shop, on the corner of Cornhill and Central Walk. Jonathan Lloyd, director, said the property has been purchased by a private investor who will be seeking a long term tenant for the premises. He said there will not be any immediate changes at the property.
