Despite the forecast threatening rain, around two-thousand turned out Saturday morning to mark this year’s Remembrance Day ceremony. The ceremony saw dignitaries and members of the Canadian armed forces, cadets and the RCMP turn out with their honor guards to mark the occasion. Among those laying a wreath in honor of Canada’s veterans included Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson, MLA’s Todd Stone and Peter Milobar, as well as MP Frank Caputo.

A new call is being made to protect BC’s borders from a potentially expensive and painful ecological invader. The Shuswap Watershed Council has fired off a letter to the provincial government, calling for immediate action to protect BC’s fresh water areas from Zebra and Quagga muscles. “Pipes is the biggest concern,” Erin Vieira with the Council told Radio NL.

UPDATE: 9:45amAn earlier travel advisory for the Coquihalla Highway has now been lifted by DriveBC. The province had been telling drivers to avoid the route due to freezing rain, which began hitting much of the Southern Interior. The travel advisories for Highway 97 in the Cariboo, as well as on the TransCanada south of Cache Creek have also been lifted. However, motorists are still being told to avoid travelling the Okanagan Connector due to continued freezing rain there.

Should Kamloops council sign-off this Tuesday, home owners in the city will need to budget even more next year for utility rates. Friends and family of missing Kamloops woman Shannon White have announced plans for another gathering next week to raise awareness of her disappearance. “Obviously we would love to have her home. We’re all looking for some sort of closure,” friend Angela Hulsman told Radio NL. “But right now the biggest thing is just to bring awareness and remind people, because she has kind of fallen out of the spotlight.
