BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — Five people were hurt in two separate crashes within 20 minutes of each other in Brookhaven Town on Thursday night Mastic, Suffolk police said. In the first crash, a man driving a 1996 Toyota sedan with an adult passenger was traveling southbound on Mastic Road in Mastic at around 7:20 p.m., when the vehicle collided with a northbound 2007 Dodge Suburban turning left onto Somerset Avenue, according to police.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A former Arizona man was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison Thursday in connection with gunning down his friend on a Long Island Rail Road train in Ronkonkoma, Newsday reported. Nicholas D’Agostino pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for fatally shooting Yusef Staine, of Wyandanch, on Feb. 16, 2022, while they were on a LIRR train, prosecutors previously said. He was charged with the crime in May 2023.

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — A man was shot at with what detectives believe is a BB gun in a road rage incident on the Long Island Expressway in Lake Ronkonkoma on Thursday morning, Suffolk police said. A man was driving a 2018 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on the Long Island Expressway at around 8:40 a.m., when another driver, a male in a Honda Civic with tinted windows, fired what detectives believe to be a BB gun into the rear driver’s side window of the Chevrolet, according to police.
