SHIRLEY, NY — Detectives are investigating the stabbing of a man in Shirley on Sunday night, Suffolk police said. A 911 caller reported a man stabbed on Oakwood Drive, just north of Neighborhood Road, at around 8:30 p.m., police said, adding that when officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old man with a knife wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The 7th Squad in Shirley is investigating. Further information was not released.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with an SUV in Farmingville on Sunday afternoon, Suffolk police said. The crash unfolded as 38-year-old Patchogue man was driving a 2018 Ford Explorer southbound on Blue Point Road when he tried to make a left turn onto Pinedale Avenue, colliding with a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja being driven northbound on Blue Point Road at 1:17 p.m., according to police.

STONY BROOK, NY — Cyanobacteria Blooms found in Roth Pond in Stony Brook were one of three found in Suffolk County this week, health department officials said Friday. Analysis of surface water samples performed by the State University of New York Stony Brook has confirmed the presence of new cyanobacteria blooms, more commonly known as blue-green algae. Due to these findings, officials are asking residents not to use or recreate in the waters and to keep their children and pets away from the area.
