    Police officers at work (Image: Newsquest) AN ENGLISH police officer who said he was offended by a suspect racially abusing him during an arrest should find a new job, magistrates were told. The comment was made by a Carlisle based defence lawyer as he offered mitigation for a defendant who had admitted using racially aggravated threatening behaviour towards the officer during an arrest. Jurgen Elmazi, 26, admitted the offence at the city’s Rickergate court.

    Rebecca Paradnyy, 43, was accused of committing the offence at Manchester on February 7, 2021, when prosecutor said she “participated in a gathering in a Tier 4 area of Greater Manchester. It was alleged that this happened in an indoor space, namely the Kate and Luc Café at Burnage Lane, and that this consisted of two or more people. This was said to have been in contravention of the Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations. Ms Paradnyy, of Byresteads, Cleator Moor, denied the offence.

    Carlisle Crown Court (Image: Newsquest) A FORMER Carlisle man is facing a crown court trial after he denied two allegations of rape dating back to the 1990s. Paul Beattie, 59, entered not guilty pleas to the allegations when he appeared before the city’s crown court via a video link. Recorder Kate Bex was told that the case is set down for a three-day trial which is due to begin on September 30. The first rape against a female victim allegedly happened between 1992 and 1993.

    Tyler Jones, 20, whose Volkswagen Golf was stopped because police wanted to check a documentation issue, was given a roadside drugs test because an officer noticed “concerning signs” of possible drug use. It happened on December 4 last year as the defendant, from Prospect, near Aspatria, drove in James Street, the city’s Rickergate court heard. The police officer involved administered a roadside drugs swipe which confirmed the presence of cocaine in Jones's system.

    A judge issued the warning to 46-year-old Andrew Crane after a prosecutor highlighted the defendant’s poor attitude to a course he was told to take. The defendant, of Colville Terrace, Denton Holme, was given a one year jail term suspended for two years for using controlling and coercive behaviour against his victim between May of 2018 and August of 2022. The sentence included a requirement for Crane to participate in a Probation Service programme designed to help rehabilitate him.
