    KALISPELL, Mont. — In Kalispell on Tuesday, the Flathead County Compensation Board denied Sheriff Brian Heino's request for a pay increase. Commissioner Randy Brodehl moved to deny the request, which was seconded by Commissioner Brad Abell. Commissioners denied the request in a 5-3 vote. Heino told NBC Montana the sheriff's office is one of the lowest staffed per population in the state.

    WHITEFISH, Mont. — The Whitefish City Council passed two motions for the employee compensation plan, which was approved by voters in the November 2024 general election. Proponents of the compensation plan argued it would give more citizens the ability to serve, while opponents argued the job should remain volunteer-driven. The original plan called for the mayor and council to get a $14,000 salary and the ability to opt into the city's health insurance.

    BOZEMAN, Mont. — The upper section of Fairy Lake Road on the Bozeman Ranger District will not open Monday due ongoing snow conditions. The Carroll Creek gate will still be accessible, and visitors will be able to drive up to a gate near Elf Lake. The Bangtails, Hyalite and Grand Canyon roads and all other roads scheduled to open on Monday in the ranger district will open Monday.     VICTOR, Mont. — The Bitterroot Land Trust is partnering with the Groff family to transform 21 acres of their land into a nature park open to the Victor community. "My grandparents they cared a lot about the community so honoring their legacy was important to the family and I think a park is the perfect scenario for them," said Ryan Clevides, a Groff grandson. The Groff family hopes to preserve their history in Victor dating back to the 1800's.
