Fake speed bumps which locals ridiculed after being installed on an Inverness street are being rolled out to another 10 Highland locations - at a cost of £40,000. Highland Council has confirmed that the fake speed bumps - painted two-dimensional road markings that are designed to create the false illusion that they’re raised 3D obstructions - will be piloted in numerous communities’ 20mph zones where average driver speeds are “higher than desired”.

A massive £63,500 windfall has been raised for a Highland charity after its latest hugely successful Golf Day fundraiser. Maggie’s Highland revealed the “amazing” total after 24 teams of golfers - almost 100 people in total - took to the fairways of Cabot Highlands at Castle Stuart recently. Following the golfing action, the teams enjoyed an evening VIP barbecue of steak and lobster, as well as entertainment from “the hilarious Des Clarke” as the evening’s host and charity auctioneer.

A major city centre street has reopened to traffic more than six hours after a crash involving a vehicle and cycle. The incident, which occurred at around 9.40am, sparked the closure of Castle Street between High Street and its junction with View Place next to the Castle Tavern. Bridge Street was also closed to through-traffic between Bank Street and Castle Street. Police and an ambulance were called to the scene, but there was no immediate word as to whether anyone was injured in the crash.

VE Day’s 80th anniversary has been marked by events across the Highlands. A host of commemorative ceremonies and events were held across the region and beyond to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2 in Europe. The occasion was particularly poignant, as it will likely be the last major anniversary where veterans of the conflict will still be able to attend. In Inverness, around 150 to 200 people gathered at the Cavell Gardens war memorial on Thursday morning to mark the landmark date.

A man who sparked a police missing person’s appeal earlier this week has been found. Officers in Dingwall had launched an appeal for help tracing Liam Long (26) on Tuesday, after he had not been seen since around 3pm on April 29. But in an update on Thursday morning, police in the Highlands confirmed that he has been traced. Thanking the public for their help, a police spokesperson said: “We can confirm Liam Long, who had been reported missing from Dingwall, has been traced.
