I first met Marina Gorodetsky when we worked for the City Planning Department. She was a clerk, and all the guys in my section were crazy about her. BOERUM HILL — Plans to transform a city-owned parking lot in Boerum Hill into a new rent-stabilized senior housing development were announced Thursday by the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD). The dilapidated-looking lot on Third Avenue, between Bergen and Wyckoff streets, will be converted into approximately 68 units of affordable senior housing.

After thirty-five years, I finally went home in 2009. I can prove it. I have a picture of the parking lot that now stands on the site of my Italian immigrant great-grandmother’s house on Spring Street. They paved paradise! I was the fourth generation living together in that home for the first two years of my life. Seeing my second home, now that was a bit more emotional. After all, my residency there spanned more than 20 years.

The city’s first subway line, from 145th Street in Manhattan to City Hall, opened in October 1904 after four years of work.
