This comes after Macy’s announced plans to close 150 of its stores by 2026, according to The Real Deal. The building was never granted landmark status, The New York Times wrote in 2019.

After thirty-five years, I finally went home in 2009. I can prove it. I have a picture of the parking lot that now stands on the site of my Italian immigrant great-grandmother’s house on Spring Street. They paved paradise! The city’s first subway line, from 145th Street in Manhattan to City Hall, opened in October 1904 after four years of work.
