Niagara Falls is looking into prominent locations for a memorial crosswalk to honour veterans, following in the footsteps of other Niagara municipalities. City council approved a motion brought forward by Coun. Mona Patel Tuesday directing staff to investigate and report back on the feasibility, design, cost and suitable and prominent locations for the installation.

Are sign bans at municipal council meetings unconstitutional? The City of Niagara Falls may find out after it decided to kick a small group of sign-toting women out of a public meeting this past week and called in Niagara Regional Police to do the job. Victor Pietrangelo during Tuesday’s meeting.

Niagara Falls’ concerns over a delegation seeking support for greater municipal accountability could have been worked around, say spokespersons for a group of women kicked out of a city council meeting this week. And the fact an ongoing legal process involving a city councillor resulted in the city blocking the group from delegating at the meeting supports the argument greater accountability is needed, says the provincial group’s founder.
