Met Eireann has forecast "bitterly cold" days ahead as wintry showers loom - and there is a chance of some snow in Leinster later next week. Frost and ice in the morning will be a regular occurrence as temperatures are expected to drop to as low as -5 degrees in the evenings. Wednesday will likely be one of the coldest days of the week when snow showers might "drift in from the Irish Sea to affect parts of east Leinster", while a severe frost is expected in the evening.

American banking institution Citigroup, which employs more than 2,500 people in Ireland, said it will axe 20,000 jobs. The move follows a "disappointing" fourth quarter and is expected to save the company as much as $2.5 billion as part of chief executive Jane Fraser’s quest to boost the Wall Street giant’s lagging returns, Bloomberg reports. Citi provides banking and finance services to many of Ireland’s largest corporates and multinational subsidiaries.

North inner city homes have been left without reliable access to water since the beginning of January, a councillor has said. Residents across Gardiner Street and Sean McDermott Street have complained they were unable to cook, wash, or clean due to the lack of consistent water supply. Councillor Ray McAdam told us that the issue began around January 2, and after it went on unresolved for a while, residents started calling him on Monday.

17 new apprenticeship programmes have been proposed for 2024, the Department of Further and Higher Education has confirmed. These include four programmes in the area of construction, while a further six in areas such as firefighting and paramedics are in development. It comes as the Department announced a record number of apprentices registered in 2023, with "significant numbers registering to join construction trades".

As well as for their good pints and great atmosphere, Finnegan’s is famous for their lunch menus, which change every day. Their chefs use seasonal and locally sourced produce, the fish is Irish, the meat - “only the best from Irish farmers”.
