Lorraine Gregory Communications will be holding a blood drive at its Edgewood headquarters on Wednesday, March 19, 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m.The drive is being held in part to address a critical need for donations following a security breach, which recently impacted New York Blood Center. As a result, the center was forced to cancel several scheduled blood drives. “The blood supply is at extremely low levels,” Greg Demetriou, CEO, Lorraine Gregory Communications, told LIBN.

Fast-moving brush fires fanned by high winds burned through a large swath of land on Long Island on Saturday, spewing thick gray smoke into the sky and prompting the evacuation of a military base and the closure of Sunrise Highway. Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency and said state agencies were responding to the fires around the Pine Barrens, a wooded area that is home to commuter towns in eastern Suffolk County.
