PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD)– Engineering is a field still largely dominated by men, but in Peoria, a couple of women are leading the field. On Maxwell Road, construction crews are hard at work. But this crew includes the Peoria County Engineer and Resident Engineer. Both are women and civil engineers. “I grew up in construction. My dad was a concrete contractor. I’ve worked in engineering since I was 13,” said Josie Esker, Resident Engineer with the Peoria County Highway Department.

Renae Skinner is the newest co-anchor for WMBD-TV’s “WMBD This Morning” and WYZZ’s “Good Day Central Illinois.”Skinner has worked as a multimedia journalist for 14 years in five states. Skinner is excited to be in the Peoria area and connect with the community through storytelling. Early-morning viewers of Peoria television have probably noticed a new face on the anchor team.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Students tend to be swamped with essays and books in 11th and 12th grade English. One educator is showing teens how to dissect a good read while gaining confidence. “There’s a passion that burns within me, whether I’m at church or at school to teach,” said English teacher Tony Brown. When we met Brown, he was in his classroom, teaching not from the “good book” but instead, another fantastic read — The Great Gatsby. Brown teaches about 80 students a day.
