SLIPPERY ROCK — Just like the 17 other victims this year, the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals were blanked by Union Area Scotties pitcher Mia Preuhs in Thursday’s PIAA Class 1A quarterfinals. Avenging last year’s 6-1 first-round loss to the eventual state champion Lady Cardinals, it was the WPIAL champion that notched an 8-0 win on a hot and muggy day at Slippery Rock University’s Kasnevich Field. Preuhs tossed a two-hitter, striking out 11 and with no walks and one hit batter.

Perhaps borrowing some of the late-inning magic from the Bulldogs’ 12-inning win over Greenville on Monday, the WPIAL champion Freedom Bulldogs rallied for a 7-6 win in eight innings.
