SYKESVILLE — The 2025 Run/Walk for Someone Special, an annual fundraiser for The Arc of Jefferson and Clearfield Counties, took off with nearly perfect weather on Sunday in Sykesville. The fundraiser, in its 46th year, raised a record amount – $92,580, said Frank Hetrick of the Run/Walk committee. The 2024 event raised $71,555.

BENEZETTE — Elk country’s biggest event of the year is easily the Elk Expo, which draws thousands of people to Winslow Hill in Benezette for a two-day affair focused on wildlife, outdoor-themed activities and more. Hosted by the Keystone Elk Country Alliance (KECA) at the Elk Country Visitor Center, the expo aims to contribute to area tourism and revenue while providing a family-friendly event.

ST. MARYS — Every year in September, spectators flock to Shawmut Park in St. Marys for its Fall Fest event, a celebration of the many things St. Marys has to offer. The 2025 Fall Fest is set for Sept. 19-21. Formerly held on The Diamond downtown, the three-day event made its debut at the Downtown Event Park on Depot Street, now named Shawmut Park, in 2021.

KERSEY — The 2025 Elk County Fair will be held Aug. 5-9 at the Elk County Fairgrounds on Dietz Road in Kersey, continuing to grow by adding fairground improvements and new attractions and activities year after year. Some fair favorites include the Keystone mini-rod tractor pulls, the mud bog, live entertainment, and the demolition derby, all returning in 2025. Elk County Fair Board President Jeremy Dorsey said new to this year’s fair is horse pulling on Wednesday night.

RIDGWAY — Every year, nearly 100 chainsaw carvers and thousands of spectators rev up to Ridgway for the Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, an internationally-known event. The 2025 Rendezvous is set for April 23-26 at the Ridgway Mills Campground, 260 W. Main St.The festival started as just a backyard party at Randy Boni’s Ridgway home in 1997, said organizer Liz Boni. Chainsaw carving, now a major art form and worldwide attraction, used to be a hobby to “cure winter boredom,” she said.

DuBOIS — After 41 years in business, longtime barber Toni Kulbacki will be closing the doors to her shop on West Long Avenue at the end of June. But, she won’t be hanging up her shears for good. Kulbacki can recall the day she started barbering –April 4, 1984. She purchased that business on South Brady Street in 1989, The Men’s Room Barbershop, where it remained for 21 years.

CLEARFIELD — A Clearfield County woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing two items from J.G. Food Warehouse in Clearfield. Clearfield Regional Police have charged Rebecca Marie Carfley, 38, of Curwensville, with one count retail theft –taking merchandise –and one count of receiving stolen property, each felonies in the third degree, according to a criminal complaint filed at Magisterial District Judge Joseph Morris’ office April 7.
