DENVER — Brock Nelson will stay in a Colorado Avalanche sweater for a few more years. On Wednesday, the Avalanche announced the club and Nelson signed a three-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season. Colorado acquired Nelson in a trade with the New York Islanders at the 2025 trade deadline. Nelson played 19 regular-season games with the Avalanche, scoring 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points. He also recorded 4 assists for the Avs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Dallas Stars.

DENVER — One person was injured during a shooting that happened Monday night in Denver. According to Denver Police, the shooting happened in the 2200 block of Larimer Street. That's two blocks southeast of Coors Field. Denver Police first posted about the shooting on the social platform X around 10:17 p.m. Monday. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Officers are working to develop suspect information. This is a developing story.

MEAD, Colo. — All lanes of Interstate 25 were closed early Thursday morning after a semi crash near mile marker 247. That's just north of Mead in Weld County. The call for the crash came in at about 3:16 a.m., according to Colorado State Patrol. Debris from inside the trailer of the truck spread across the interstate. Crews are working to clean up the debris before reopening the road. Southbound lanes of I-25 are closed at the Berthoud Exit and northbound lanes are closed at the CO 66 exit.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for an animal inside a home earlier this month. Around 4 a.m. on May 22, Amy Auffret heard a loud noise in her home on Summit Ash and went to investigate "I went downstairs and saw a bobcat at the bottom of the stairs trying to get out," Auffret said. She called 911 to get the animal removed from her home. When deputies arrived, they found the bobcat hiding behind the TV.

DENVER — A Southwest Airlines flight landed at Denver International Airport Sunday night after a possible lightning strike, according to the airline. Flight 168 landed safely at DIA at about 8:36 p.m., according to Flightaware.com. The flight originated from Tampa International Airport and sustained a possible lightning strike while flying to Denver, Southwest Airlines said. The maintenance crew took the aircraft involved out of service for inspection, the airline said.
