Weiss football coach Vernon Hughes has resigned to become the head coach and athletic coordinator at Mesquite Horn, according to the Mesquite school district. Hughes found success in his two years at Weiss, going 17-5. He reached the playoffs in both seasons but lost in the bi-district round of the Class 5A playoffs each time. In 2024, Weiss averaged 48.1 points per game and sent more than 20 athletes to compete at the collegiate level, according to a Mesquite ISD statement.

Westlake Chaparrals win UIL Class 6A boys state golf title for eighth time in nine yearsAll it took was one good day for Westlake to reclaim its stature as the best high school boys golf program in Texas. The Chaparrals, who led Houston Memorial by 11 shots after the first 18 holes on Monday, were declared winners of the Class 6A UIL state championship of the UIL State Golf Championship at White Wing Golf Club for Class 6A on Tuesday because the course was unplayable for the second round.
