    SOUTH AMBOY — A Middlesex County mom and Woodbridge Township have settled a lawsuit accusing police officers of forcing their way into her home, causing her to lose custody of her daughter for several months. In a lawsuit, Katiria Ortiz said she was the victim of police brutality. The South Amboy woman and her attorney will split $197,000, according to a settlement first obtained in late April by John Paff with TransparencyNJ.com. Funds will be paid by Woodbridge's insurance fund.

    TRENTON — Gov. Phil Murphy has vetoed a bill that would have increased penalties for teens who start problems at community events and other public spaces. On Thursday, the Democratic governor said he was returning the bill (A4652) to the General Assembly with suggested revisions. The action is known as a conditional veto. The bill would have created a new crime of inciting a public brawl, a fourth-degree offense.

    SOUTH PLAINFIELD — A Piscataway police officer has been caught on video following women and a girl around in stores while off-duty and sexually aroused, according to authorities. Wesley Kliwinski, 37, of Hamilton, was arrested on May 1, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. He's charged with third-degree child endangerment by engaging in sexual conduct, fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, and harassment, which is a disorderly person's offense.
