The Timberwolves (6-2) are No. 1 in Class AAAA in the West Virginia Associated Press high school girls basketball poll. Spring Valley garnered six of eight No. 1 votes and 76 points to edge No. 2 Wheeling Park (7-2, 74), which was No. 1 on two ballots. "It's a great thing for the girls and out program," Timberwolves coach Bo Miller said.

When Jim Justice leaves office sometime next month, he will be the first West Virginian to serve two full terms as governor since Gaston Caperton — who left office nearly 28 years ago. Justice leaves a decidedly mixed legacy. For someone who treated the office as a part-time job, he had some significant accomplishments, including a period of substantial roadbuilding, courtesy of an infusion of federal Infrastructure Act funds, and the issuance of $2.8 billion in road bonds.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Around 1,000 poll workers in Kanawha County are gathering up voting ballots and everything else they will need ahead of Tuesday’s General Election. Monday was a busy day at the Voter’s Registration Office in Kanawha County as those poll workers were coming in and out picking up supplies to take to their assigned voting locations across the 183 county precincts. Kanawha County Clerk Vera McCormick told MetroNews they will be ready bright and early for the big day.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Police are looking for suspects responsible for the attack of a man in downtown Morgantown late last week. The man, whose name has not been released, was attacked while sitting in a doorway on Walnut Street at about 4:20 a.m. Friday. Police said the attack was unprovoked. Police said two male suspects attacked the victim, one with a blunt object resembling a baseball bat and the second suspect stabbed the victim multiple times in the back.

MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. — The West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene mid-morning Monday after a fire at a home off Sulphur Springs Road in Jefferson County. Chief Michael Mood of Middleway Fire Department tells The Panhandle News Network crews were called out at 3:52 a.m. to the home. There is one confirmed fatality resulting from the blaze, according to Chief Mood.
