CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A cohort of aspiring nurses are putting their pens to paper and getting a reward of up to $25,000 dollars in exchange for a three-year work commitment in the field. WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals came together with BridgeValley Community & Technical College Thursday for a signing ceremony honoring the fifth cohort of nursing students accepted into the WVU Medicine Aspiring Nurses Program. Jennifer Morris was among the 11 cohorts entering into the program Thursday.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Before coming to Charleston to serve as Mayor, Amy Shuler Goodwin originally hails from the Wheeling area, and she said what has happened there with the devastating floods cuts particularly deep for her. As of Wednesday, the body of an eighth victim from the flooding event that occurred Saturday night and early Sunday morning was recovered, and more are currently being searched for.

BECKLEY, W.Va. — The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office is partnering up with various organizations to extend support out to those in the community who may need it the most. The sheriff’s office will host a community outreach event Wednesday night known as the “You’re Not Alone” event for those suffering from substance abuse or mental health issues to get the resources they need. The event will take place at the Sheetz along Robert C. Byrd Drive in Beckley from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. Wednesday.
