On Sunday, February 2nd, the Diocese of Cork and Ross marked a special occasion as religious women and men joined Bishop Fintan Gavin at the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne to celebrate the Diocesan Jubilee of Consecrated Life. Additionally, members of various religious communities, along with people from across the Diocese, participated in the event virtually through the Cathedral’s livestream. The jubilee year focuses on the theme of hope, a message central to the celebration.

Blackpool Community Centre is the focal point of the community and is a hive of activity all year round. The centre will host a range of activities and classes in the next few weeks to get spring off to a great start. Healthy Food Made Easy, a community cooking programme, will help people to improve their cooking skills, eating behaviours, and nutritional knowledge. It returns on Wednesdays from 10am to 12.30pm, on February 19, 26, March 12, 19, 26 and April 2.

Funding has been secured to progress a long awaited piece of infrastructure that is seen by local representatives as vital to providing support for the building of thousands of homes, a growing community, and linking the northside of Cork city with the city centre. Cork city councillor John Maher has welcomed the news of €2m funding allocated by the National Transport Authority (NTA) to progress the works on the Ballyvolane Strategic Transport Corridor.
