    Time will tell all and the time in Shandon will be telling the truth in the future after a quarter of a million euro was secured to restore Cork’s most recognisable timepiece. Government funding of €250,000 has been secured toward repairs of Cork’s historic Shandon clock. The funding is part of an allocation of more than €3.5m awarded for the repair of 28 heritage buildings across the country under the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage’s Historic Structures Fund (HSF).

    A very enjoyable afternoon of song and dance was held at a Cork northside nursing home last week with the help of an ever-popular musical group. The Over 60s Concert Group, who visit the many nuring homes throughout the city, entertained the residents at Mount Cara. Welcoming the group, Sheena Sheena Varghese, of Mount Cara, thanked them for their many visits during the year. Entertaining the residents were the Over 60s Concert Group performers, who have become well-known around the city.

    A unique multicultural event marked the lunar new year, the year of the snake, recently on Cork’s northside. Leaders of many cultural and faith traditions gathered with local community activists to light some of the 1,000 candles at a traditional Chinese Buddhist ceremony. The ceremony was led by members of the Chinese Esoteric Buddhist School, who travelled to Cork especially for the event.
