Gardaí are investigating a major fire at the site of the Good Shepherd Laundry in Sundays Well last night. Emergency services rushed to the site of the historic convent property shortly before midnight after reports of a widespread fire. Flames and smoke could be seen from across the city as it blazed on late into the night. Gardaí have launched an arson probe and say it was an "incident of criminal damage" which has substantially damaged the building.

Gardaí across Cork are cracking down on motorists chancing their arm using green diesel, with checkpoints across the county dipping for dodgy fuel. Gardaí in Bandon have highlighted one recent incident where a truck was stopped and seized when it was discovered that the "defective" vehicle was running on marked gas oil.

A man who was travelling on a ride-on lawnmower was killed when he was struck by a car in Co Tipperary yesterday night. The man, who is in his 30s, was on the lawnmower on the N76 when a car collided with him. The horrific incident occurred yesterday at around 9.50 pm at Kilcash Cross, a crossroads in a rural area to the east of Clonmel and near the Tipperary/Waterford border.

The mini-heatwave we've been enjoying this week is coming to an end, as weather maps indicate when we can expect a deluge of rain to plummet down bringing the summer-like weather to a close. While today looks like a far more misty day with thick cloud cover increasing in Cork skies, it will still stay reasonably mild with some sunnier spells coming in by evening. However, the weekend will close with a nasty bout of thundery conditions set to swoop in from the Atlantic tomorrow.

A lucky Prize Bonder in Cork is €50k richer after scooping the top prize in this week's draw. It's a very handy win and one of nearly 9,000 prizes which were awarded this week as the Prize Bond Draw dished out over €739,000 in winnings. Ireland State Saving, which runs the draws, confirmed today that this week's top prize of €50k goes to Prize Bond number BIG 969519 held in County Cork.
