A Harrison County 911 dispatcher and her family are in need after a fire destroyed their home this past week, leaving her and her two sons displaced. “Our hearts go out to Harrison County dispatcher Kierra Wilbert, whose home tragically burned down, resulting in the loss of everything,” the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, where Wilbert works, wrote in a Facebook post.

High school Spanish teacher Mercedes Arteaga-Magana couldn't wait to share video of her "big day" with her students. Arteaga-Magana was one of 35 people from nine countries who took part in a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization ceremony at Marshall's federal court. U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap said the ceremony was part of a special session of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Elysian Fields ISD Superintendent Monica Simmons has resigned effective July 31 after working at the district for years, the last three as superintendent. “I will miss the students, staff and community but know they will continue to soar under new leadership,” Simmons said in a statement. According to Elysian Fields board officials, Simmons resigned to pursue other career opportunities. She tendered her resignation in a special called meeting.

WASKOM — Waskom High School celebrated 64 graduates Friday at the school's commencement. The graduation kicked off with announcement of Class of 2025 accolades, including that scholarships totaled more than $259,000. “This speaks very highly of the many efforts and sacrifices both academic and extracurricular that they have made,” said Abby Loyd, the school's dean of students.
