COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - Casino gambling arrived in Council Bluffs in January of 1995 with the Kanesville Queen docking on the Missouri River, followed closely by the Ameristar Riverboat. At the time, casinos were only allowed in two places: locations with an established dog or horse racing track, or on the water. But in 2007, Iowa’s state law changed, allowing for land-based casino gambling.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - City crews in Omaha began picking up storm debris at dawn's early light Monday. A crew near 42nd and Wirt streets made quick work of a pile of limbs. They were clearing the area bounded by Bedford on the north and Lake St. on the south, from 36th to 52nd streets right behind Benson High School. But, there was more out here than anyone originally thought. "The decision was made to start Thursday at about noon (Monday).

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Sage brothers served together on the U.S.S. Frank E. Evans during the Vietnam War. In June 1969, their ship collided with an Australian aircraft carrier. The three brothers and Gary Hodgson were among 74 killed. 6 News spoke with Eunice Sage, the brothers' mother, in 1999 after a memorial was dedicated to them in Niobrara. "Gary was the oldest. He was 16 months older than Greg," she said. "Greg was two years (and) three months older than Kelly Jo. That was awful.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - While most of use cars to get around, it's important to remember public transportation. Gov. Jim Pillen declared this week Nebraska Public Transit Week. Its goal is to raise awareness of how public transit benefits communities. Kristin Buckner brought her three children to check out the Books and Buses event Saturday at Gallagher Park. Metro partnered with the Omaha Public Library system and city parks and brought one of its new electric buses.

LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - A Ceresco, Neb., police officer was honored Friday in Lincoln after he was killed during a traffic stop last week. Ross Bartlett, 54, died when his patrol car was hit by a pickup during a traffic stop on Highway 77. Bartlett was a police officer in several small Nebraska communities over the years. He also served as a volunteer firefighter. He's remembered as loving his family and giving his time to others on a regular basis.

BELLEVUE, Neb. (WOWT) - During Nebraska's primary election on May 14, some issues will be settled and will not appear on the general election ballot in November. One of those issues is a half-cent sales tax increase initiative in Bellevue, where city representatives hope the tab for improvements will be footed by visitor dollars. Bellevue is making a big move. The city council approved a world-class domed water park that will operate year-round.
