JUNIOR athletes have been given a helping hand with a health eating initiative thanks to a generous charity donation. Youngsters from Helensburgh Amateur Athletic Club (HAAC) received their first piece of fruit last week from the Dunclay Charitable Trust. The donation will allow HAAC to continue the incentive once a week, providing for around 50 young athletes over the next year.

The teenager is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court tomorrow (Thursday, June 5) and is the third teen to be charged in connection with the death of Kayden Moy. Kayden, 16, died after being found seriously injured on the night of May 17. He was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where he passed away a short time later.

A 2-1 defeat away to Linwood Rangers on May 16 ended the side's flawless start to the Football Central 35s Division Three campaign. However, a 2-1 victory at home to Milngavie on Friday night, May 30 ensured they kept their place at the top of the table, with 18 points from the opening seven matches. Rhu started the recent game in determined fashion and went in front after 10 minutes when David Sinclair found the net with a shot outside the box.

Gateshead Harrier athlete Calum Johnson, competing under the colours of his honorary Scottish club East Kilbride, had initially planned to run alongside Dumbarton winner Taha Ghafari for the first half of the race on Thursday, May 29. However, after finding himself comfortably leading at the 2k mark, he decided to push the pace. Making light work of the challenging course, Johnson completed the first 5k in 14 minutes 40 seconds.

Members of Loch Lomond Water Ski Club presented a cheque for £1,791 to the Beatson Cancer Charity at the weekend following their annual sponsored fancy dress event on January 1. The handover, gratefully received by the charity's Kimberley Parlane at Balloch pier on Sunday, June 1, came exactly five months after another successful - if slightly different -event for the club.
