THE public are urged to keep clear of pony herds after 21 stallions were released onto the Forest this week. The stallions were turned out in various locations yesterday (Monday) including East Boldre, Hale Purlieu, Balmer Lawn, Bramshaw Golf Course, Wilverley, Hilltop, Ashurst and Linford. They can remain out on the Forest until Monday 23rd June. The male ponies selected to run on the Forest are chosen after vetting by the New Forest Pony Breeding and Cattle Society and the verderers.

WARTIME memories will be evoked as C.P Taylor’s moving play And A Nightingale Sang opens at The Bridge in Milford. The show is directed by Wendy Mason and features a cast of local performers who have joined forces to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. And A Nightingale Sang was first staged in 1977 by Live Theatre in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, with its title inspired by the popular wartime song sung by Vera Lynn called A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.

THE founders of the iconic New Forest-based Pig Hotel group, Robin and Judy Hutson, recently retired from their roles 14 years after launching the first Pig in Brockenhurst. The pair, who have spent a lifetime in hospitality, stepped down from their roles as chairman and creative director at the close of 2024 to spend more time with their families and enjoy travelling a little more. Both will remain involved as shareholders.

Published: 05:30, 09 May 2025 A FLAG that was flown to mark VE Day 80 years ago has been raised in Sway this week. The Union Jack flag, which has only been unfurl on one or two occasions in the last 80 years, is displayed on a flag pole in Kings Lane to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE day. At the time of VE Day, Alan Lawrence (90) from Lymington was just 10 years old. He said: “I remember my father rigging up the flag pole and it flew above our house.

WACKY hats, classic cars and family races drew large crowds to Bransgore’s annual village fun day. A highlight of the local calendar, the popular event, organised by Bransgore Rotary Club, also shone the spotlight on dozens of other local organisations and charities – which popped up throughout the recreation ground with information stalls and activities.
