MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Tuesday, Lowcountry tennis fans gathered to watch hometown hero Emma Navarro compete in the quarter-final round at Wimbledon. Sadly, a two-set loss meant the end of the run for the 23-year-old tennis phenom. At the same time, hundreds of aspiring athletes took to LTP Tennis courts on Daniel Island and in Mount Pleasant for the third day of the USTA Girls 18s National Clay Championship - the tournament Navarro won in 2018.

Berkeley County, S.C. — Monday night - after storms hit hard areas of Berkeley and Dorchester counties - volunteers from Carolina Emergency Response Team took to the streets to help clear those roadways so first responders could handle the emergencies. The 501c3 non-profit organization began mobilizing volunteers for these efforts about nine years ago. Now - some 30 volunteers strong - they keep an eye out ahead of big weather events where their work may be needed.

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — On April 16, 1945, the U.S.S. Laffey was under attack from the Japanese near the Pacific Island of Okinawa. That battle, in the final year of World War II, resulted in the deaths of 32 crewmen onboard the Summer-class destroyer. Although they've passed over the years, surviving shipmates began the tradition of honoring those lost lives with a special ceremony each year onboard the Laffey at Patriot's Point.

(WCIV) — 82 years after the Japanese attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor - propelling the U.S. military into World War II - veterans, leaders and families gathered aboard Patriot Point's U.S.S. Yorktown to commemorate the anniversary. For over 20 years, the VFW Post 10624 has organized the annual event that includes a reading of the names of the more than two dozen South Carolinians killed in the December 7th attack.
