Athletics staff are the eight highest-paid employees at the University of Texas at Austin, led by head football coach Steve Sarkisian, according to public records. The reported figures are base salaries, so some officials make even more through additional compensation measures and incentives. Sarkisian's base salary is $4.3 million, but his latest contract nets him an average $10.8 million a year without bonuses for championship wins and appearances, according to previous Chronicle reporting.

Rice University officials announced plans on Monday to once again expand the student body, building on the momentum of a historic project that raised a 4,000-person undergraduate population to 4,800 over the last five years. The Rice University Board of Trustees approved a goal moving the target to 5,200 undergraduates – which would mark a 30% increase since expansion began in 2020.

At least 18 international students attending Houston-area community colleges saw changes to their legal status as the Department of Homeland Security terminated a wave of foreign students' records across the country. Twelve of those students were enrolled at Houston Community College and six were enrolled at San Jacinto College, school officials confirmed. The full number of scholars affected across the country is unknown, as some colleges and universities have declined to provide information.

A University of Houston assistant professor is among the foreign scholars whose visas were revoked in recent weeks, officials at the institution confirmed Tuesday. "We are aware that one University of Houston faculty member has been affected by the SEVIS visa terminations based on his recent status as a doctoral student at another institution," a UH statement reads.

A Fort Bend ISD high schooler pleaded with board members as their mother waited outside in the car, unaware that she drove her child to a meeting about a highly contested gender policy. If approved, the student said, their teachers would be required to tell their parents that they identify as nonbinary. They believed they would be kicked out of the house with nowhere to go. "I'm incredibly scared," the student said at the Monday night meeting.
