EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is announcing alumna Dr. Kara Metzger is named director of athletic bands at the university. According to a press release from the university, Metzger, a Waukesha native, is a 2016 Blugold graduate of the music and theatre arts department. “I am thrilled to move back home to Wisconsin and work with the institution that made me the educator I am today,” Metzger said.

MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) - Flags will fly at half-staff Saturday. According to a press release from the Office of Governor Tony Evers, Evers is ordering flags to be flown at half-staff on March 15, 2025, in honor of Firefighter and Emergency Medical Responder Lori Boelkes. The press release says Boelkes died in the line of duty on Feb. 27, 2025, at the age of 56.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) - Aspirus Health says it finalized the purchase of 22.1 acres of land in Chippewa Falls on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025. According to a press release from Aspirus Health, the new hospital will be located on Chippewa Crossing Boulevard, directly across from Fire Station No. 1, near the intersection of Chippewa Crossing and Seymour Cray Sr. boulevards.

MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has been informed by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection that a farm-raised deer on a deer farm in Eau Claire County tested positive for chronic wasting disease. According to a press release from the DNR, this positive result is within 10 miles of the border of both Clark and Jackson counties, resulting in a new baiting and feeding ban, set to go into effect in Clark County on March 1, 2025.
