ABILENE, Texas — A man was found dead near the train tracks late Monday near the cross streets of the Grape and Butternut underpass area in Abilene. The Abilene Police Department said dispatch received a call from a Union Pacific employee passing through Abilene about an object on or near the tracks. When they got to the location, officers found a 58-year-old man dead near the tracks. He has been identified, but APD will not publicly release his name until his next of kin is notified.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Pia and Holger Buchwalder are still reeling after an explosion destroyed their new food truck, The Tasty Kraut, Monday. After all, the two have only been in the United States for 15 months and operating their food business since January 2025. Pia said initially she had no words and wanted to scream and cry when they arrived at the storage unit where the food truck was being stored and learned about the explosion. "But there was nothing coming out, I was shocked," she said.

ABILENE, Texas — After the arrest and indictment of a 23-year-old man considered to be transient, the Abilene Police Department said the investigation into the case has yielded possible additional victims. APD said in a media release that Valente Erik Cano, 23, was arrested for an incident that happened July 20, 2024, and indicted by a Taylor County grand jury on that charge March 20, 2025. Law enforcement documents list Cano as transient.
