Donald Trump was elected the next President and Republicans will take control of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Republicans will continue to represent Douglas County voters in the Oregon Senate and Oregon House. By Wednesday morning, voter turnout was 56.86% statewide. This is expected to increase as ballots will continue to trickle in and needed to be postmarked by Nov. 5 to be counted in the election. Unofficial final results will be released Nov.

DOUGLAS COUNTY — Three pediatric cases of pertussis, or whooping cough, have been confirmed in Douglas County with seven presumptive cases as of Nov. 1. Parents from students at Roseburg High School, South Umpqua High School and Jo Lane Middle School have been notified. The epidemiology team at Douglas Public Health Network is working on contact tracing and notifying those who may have been exposed. Pertussis is a highly contagious infection.

Douglas County’s seasonally adjusted payroll employment rose by 230 jobs in September, after a gain of 100 in August, and a loss of 110 in July. In the not seasonally adjusted private-sector industries in September, a State of Oregon Employment Department release said there were relatively large gains of 40 jobs in both private education and health services. Transportation, warehousing and utilities added 20 jobs.

Close to 6% of ballots have been returned for the 2024 Douglas County November Presidential General Election as of late Tuesday afternoon. Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis said 5.67%, or 5,079 ballots, have been received. Loomis said that lags 7.61% behind the participation rate for the previous 2020 November Presidential General Election in the county. Voters should remember to:Propertly fill in the oval for selected candidates or measures. Selection the option to write-in and fill the oval.

The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs will honor all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces during its Statewide Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in view of the Oregon State Capitol Building. The celebration will honor Oregon veterans of all eras and will be hosted at the Oregon State Capitol State Park located on Court Street Northeast in Salem — directly in front of the main entrance of the Oregon State Capitol Building.
