EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne announced he will create an Office of Violence Prevention during a news conference in East Cleveland Thursday morning. Ronayne said the office will coordinate with community partners to implement violence prevention measures, mostly targeted at teenagers. Those measures, he said, will include keeping libraries and recreation centers open for longer hours, especially during the summer months, when crime tends to increase.

CLEVELAND — The man in charge of a Cleveland police oversight group confirmed to News 5 Investigators he does not plan to return to the position. In a text message, Jason Goodrick said he will not return as Interim Executive Director of the Cleveland Community Police Commission. He wrote, "I am on a three-week leave but will not be returning to the CPC staff." Goodrick has held the role since 2017. Goodrick says he has a new role in the city's Office of Sustainability.

CLEVLEAND — Fewer Ohio kindergarten students are meeting state requirements for vaccinations, according to data obtained from the Ohio Department of Health. Ohio requires all students entering kindergarten to be vaccinated against dangerous diseases, including measles. During the 2024-25 school year, 85.4% of kindergarten students met all of the state's requirements. Five years ago, during the 2019-20 school year, 89.9% of kindergarten students were fully vaccinated.

CLEVELAND — A Cleveland fire station was shut down Sunday night after water leaks from recent wet weather, according to a city spokesman. Ward 8 Councilman Michael Polensek said firefighters told him the roof of Fire Station #30 has been leaking for years, which has also led to concerns about mold. Polensek said the station was also shut down because firefighters complained about a bad smell.

CLEVELAND — How much does the job pay? You will soon be able to find out the salary range for any job listing in Cleveland. Cleveland City Council passed an ordinance aimed at reducing the gender and race wage gap Monday night. The new law requires Cleveland businesses with over 15 employees to "provide the salary range or scale" on job listings. The law also bars employers from asking about an employee's current or previous salary.
