Frito-Lay, Inc. is laying off nearly a third of the workforce at its Middletown manufacturing plant by the end of the summer, according to documents the corporation filed with the New York state Department of Labor. According to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed May 29, 88 of the Middletown plant’s 305 on-site workers will be laid off during a two-week period starting Friday, Aug. 30. The storefronts of New Paltz were made rainbow ready Thursday after a team of young artists took to the windows with brushes and acrylic paint in preparation for the village’s 20th annual Pride March and Festival. “It’s important to bring the community together for inclusive, diverse support of Pride,” said Diane Fauci, community relations specialist for the town’s Office of Community Wellness, which helped coordinate the event.
