    A growing restaurant firm has put in a bid to open a premises in Halifax. Loungers UK Limited – which already has more than 250 sites across the UK – has made the licence application for two units at the forthcoming expansion of Westgate Quarter in the town centre. Work is currently underway by O&C Management Services to transform the area that formerly housed Horton House, between Union Street and Horton Street, creating 12 new premises for a mix of retail, leisure and office uses.

    Halifax’s Eid Fest is returning for another year. The free family event for the whole community will take place on Sunday, June 8 in the car park of Central Jamia Madni Mosque on Gibbet Street. It will include a funfair with children’s rides including bumper cars, a visit from Iron Man and Transformers, trampolines, a penalty shoot out, super cars, bouncy castles, face painting, mehndi, an interactive police vehicle and plenty more.

    One of Calderdale’s delis is looking for a new owner. Mustard, on Wharf Street in Sowerby Bridge, is open as usual but is up for sale. Its owner has posted on social media that it is “time for a change”. "It’s with some regret that I have decided to call it a day at Mustard,” he said. “We will remain open until the right person/s are found to take over the lease. A brand new lease is to be negotiated with the potential buyer and landlord.

    Money for repairs at four more Calderdale schools has been announced. More than 7,000 pupils at the Calder Valley schools are set to benefit from additional government investment. Burnley Road Academy in Mytholmroyd, Hebden Royd C of E Primary School, Luddenden C of E School, and Rastrick High School will all receive additional money from the Condition Improvement Fund to ensure classrooms and facilities are safe and energy-efficient.

    A man has died after a crash which closed the M62 near Calderdale for several hours. The 51-year-old was on a motorbike when he was involved in an eight-vehicle accident on the motorway on Thursday. Police have announced today that he died in hospital over the weekend. His family are aware and are being offered specialist support. A 53-year-old man was arrested last Friday on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is currently on bail.
