BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A reminder for college students to make sure you can vote in the 2024 presidential election. It’s an exciting time for students heading off to college and in that excitement, it may be easy to forget to make sure you have that fundamental right to vote. A number of college students have been turned away from polls because that’s not where they are registered to vote. So applying for an absentee ballot now will keep that from happening.

BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) - Bessemer City Schools new superintendent Dr. Dana Arreola is finishing the school year by giving unprecedented access during our first on camera interview. WBRC went along with Dr. Arreola to do home visits to find out why some students do not come to school. Dr. Arreola teamed up with the educational solutions company Concentrics to get out into the community that she serves to ring doorbells and knock on the doors of these students.

BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) - Visit any elementary school in the Bessemer City Schools district and you will find Amazon’s footprint to inspire the next generation of writers. The online retail giant donated $100,000 to put Think Big Writing Labs in each school. Bessemer City Schools hosted Amazon executives, state and local leaders, and students Tuesday for the culmination of the 2023 Next Generation Writers Conference at the Bessemer Civic Center.
