As one long-time legislator received the highest civilian award in the state for his service in the legislature, four newly elected lawmakers were sworn into office on Monday night. Gov. Henry McMaster awarded former Sen. Dwight Loftis, who chose not to seek office in 2024, the Order of the Palmetto for his service in the South Carolina General Assembly.

Lawmakers representing Greenville-area legislative districts heading to Columbia in January will take the oath of office Monday night. South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice John Kittredge, a Greenville native, will conduct the swearing-in at 5:30 in Greenville County Council chambers. Gov. Henry McMaster will also speak. Four new faces will join the delegation as the South Carolina House welcomes freshmen legislators.

Greenville GOP official ordered to serve 90 days in jail, found in civil contempt of courtA Greenville County Republican Party official was ordered to serve 90 days at the Newberry County Detention Center after a judge found he was in civil contempt of court. A judge ordered State Executive Committeeman Jeff Davis to serve 90 days in the detention center, which could only be suspended by paying $39,443 in fees.

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has introduced a resolution banning transgender women from using women’s bathrooms in the Capitol just weeks after Rep.-elect Sarah McBride, a Delaware Democrat, became the first transgender person elected to Congress. “Biological men do not belong in private women’s spaces. Period. Full stop. End of story,” Mace posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) announced he will be running for the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. The NRSC works to elect Republicans to the Senate. In the 2024 general election, the GOP flipped seats in West Virginia, Montana and Ohio and will now control the Senate for the next two years. "Let's do this! I'm running for NRSC Chair because two years of a Republican agenda is good, but four years of success under Donald J. Trump is even better," Scott said in a statement.
