Starting last fall, fifth grade students there have helped collect scientific data on monarch butterfly migration. The data has been uploaded onto a nationwide database that contributes to research on monarch migration biology and populations.

With 358 high schools represented, the festival is set to include over 4,000 performances in woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, string and vocal categories.

Pierpont General Store hosted Pups, Pints, and Petting Zoos on Sunday in Columbia. Sponsored by Central Missouri Humane Society, Creekside Pet Center and Pierpont General Store, the fundraiser raised money for the Central Missouri Humane Society, a regional animal welfare organization that works with around 2,000 animals each year. This is the first Pints, Pups, and Petting Zoos fundraiser to take place in the spring, with a new non-profit organization being supported at each fundraiser.
