A settlement agreement was signed Tuesday to conclude a lawsuit brought against the Ketchikan Gateway Borough by former Borough Manager Dan Bockhorst and Lindy Bockhorst. The lawsuit that was filed by the Bockhorsts in Ketchikan Superior Court on May 28 cited “multiple violations of Borough Code relating to the Borough’s FY26 budget process,” according to the settlement agreement that was signed Tuesday by the Bockhorsts and Borough Manager Ruben Duran.

If you catch a king salmon at Herring Cove, the Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association would like to hear from you. The nonprofit organization — which operates the Whitman Lake Hatchery that releases about 700,000 king salmon at Herring Cove every year — has a new web-based catch reporting system that anglers can access via QR codes posted on new, bright-yellow signs placed at the Hole in the Wall harbor and shoreline access points at Herring Cove.

Ketchikan’s version of the nationwide “No Kings” rally against a range actions taken by President Donald Trump brought about 300 participants to the sidewalks of Mill Street in front of the Federal Building and Whale Park early Saturday afternoon. The event, which started at 12 p.m. and began winding down after 1 p.m., was lively and peaceful, with long-time Ketchikan residents making up a sizable component of the crowd.

A Ketchikan group that was organized in response to protest rallies that occurred earlier this year in downtown Ketchikan has held the first of what’s planned to be four community-building events. The “Unity for Community” Community Fest featured a barbecue, raffle, petition signing, a photo booth, yard games such as magnetic fishing and cornhole and a bouncy house for youths on Saturday afternoon at Alder Park on Bryant Street.
