LUMBERTON, Texas — If you regularly travel along U.S. Highway 96 in Lumberton and are used to breezing through the flashing traffic signal on the south side of town, get ready for a change on Monday. The traffic signal in front of the north entrance to Lumberton Early Childhood School on US 96, between Lynn Drive and Isom Street, will begin operating as a normal traffic signal full-time starting Monday, April 21st, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

KOUNTZE, Texas — Kountze voters will soon decide whether to approve a sales tax redistribution that would shift funding priorities while maintaining the current total tax rate. Proposition A, which will appear on the May ballot, proposes reducing the city's property tax relief allocation while increasing general revenue funding without changing the overall 8.25% sales tax rate paid by consumers.

WEST ORANGE, Texas — An elderly woman escaped a house fire without injury Wednesday in West Orange. Firefighters in West Orange were sent to the fire in the 3000 block of Hilltop St. just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the house along with and flames coming through the ridge at the top of the roof on the single story home. This is a developing story. BEAUMONT, Texas — A 42-year-old Southeast Texas man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder, aggravated assault, drug delivery charges, and child endangerment in a Jefferson County District Court. Judge Raquel West accepted the guilty pleas of Howard Dontay Celestine, 42, and immediately sentenced him according to an agreement reached between prosecutors and defense, District Attorney Keith F. Giblin announced.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Jefferson County judge has refused to dismiss murder charges against a county jail inmate accused of causing another inmate's death by providing her with fentanyl-laced heroin and also denied a request to reduce her $500,000 bond. Michelle Cormier, 44, who faces first-degree felony murder charges in connection with the death of 25-year-old Shelbi Ervin, appeared before Judge Raquel West seeking relief on both fronts.
