Two proposed rule changes dealing with transgender student-athletes in Washington did not pass, but the issue certainly didn’t end with those votes. The first proposal, labeled ML/HS #7, stated that “participation in girls’ sports would be limited to biological females,” according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association website.

Those who transfer will have to sit out the first 40% of the season in the year after they transfer.

A lot has happened since December when 14 school districts in the state proposed an amendment to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) handbook that would restrict participation in girls sports at the middle school and high school levels to students who were assigned female at birth. That amendment, and a second one that would create a new “open division” that trans students could participate in, failed to pass in advisory-only votes, the WIAA announced Monday.

The @UW_Rowing women roll to a win over New Zealand and Indiana to win the Windermere Cup and give the Huskies a sweep.

The @UW_Rowing men defeat New Zealand by about four seats in the Windermere Cup

Just happened upon Al Black (with sunglasses), a professor of mine and an IMA basketball teammate at UW, celebrating his 86th birthday. He had a big impact on my life. Seated across from him was Lenny Wilkens. https://t.co/xKPwbk4uLB
