AUGUSTA, Ga. - Seattle native Fred Couples had the shot of the day in the first round of the Masters on Thursday, holing out from 186 yards for an eagle on the 14th hole that propelled him to a 1-under 71. "I don't think I've ever had an eagle on a par-4 here before," said Couples, 65, who hit a 6-hybrid on his hole-out. "I hit it really, really well and it just carried the ridge. I thought I had enough to get over (it) and then (the patrons) went crazy."Copyright 2025 Tribune Content Agency.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Joe Highsmith knows what it’s like to come to Augusta National as fan but playing in the Masters? That was a dream, and one that will come true this week. That’s because the Lakewood native earned his way into this year’s field by winning the Cognizant Classic last month in Palm Beach Gardens Fla., for his first victory on the PGA Tour.

Two proposed rule changes for transgender student athletes in Washington will be advisory-only votes after the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, the governing body for high-school sports in the state, determined changing the rules would contradict state law.

Love the fact that there are no cell phones or cameras on the course at Augusta National (cameras were allowed in practice rounds). No exceptions. The silence is worth any inconvenience.

Australian Cam Davis has called the Seattle area home since 2017. He is a very good player, and has been as high as No. 38 in the world. He was 12th at last year's Masters. https://t.co/kq3MpALyRc

I didn't see Fred's shot on 14 go in, but there was no doubt what happened based on the roar. https://t.co/3vm88DmQpz
