CLEVELAND, Ohio — Councilwoman Rebecca Maurer, who lives in the city’s newly drawn Ward 5, announced Tuesday that she will run for reelection there — setting up a head-to-head matchup with her colleague Councilman Richard Starr. Maurer will face the challenge of introducing herself to most of Ward 5’s voters for the first time, since the ward’s boundaries were redrawn earlier this year. It’s a challenge she’s familiar with, after pulling off an upset against incumbent Anthony Brancatelli in 2021.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A city-led effort has found housing for 154 people experiencing homelessness and closed 15 encampments as part of the Cleveland’s “A Home for Every Neighbor” program. First unveiled more than a year ago, Mayor Justin Bibb’s $2 million program has already surpassed its initial goal of finding housing for 150 individuals by 2026. Cleveland City Council is set to introduce legislation Monday night that would fund the initiative for a second year with another $1.9 million.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland City Council is spending extra money on a summer job program for teens and young adults, allowing the organization to hire another 150 kids and hire four more staff members this year. Youth Opportunities Unlimited plans to hire 1,900 youth aged 14 to 18 this summer, with 1,330 of them being Cleveland residents, according to a presentation given to City Council on Monday.
