TACOMA, Wash. — Protesters from across Oregon and Washington gathered Tuesday outside the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, demanding the release of two Filipino women they said are being wrongfully held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). SEATTLE — What began as a dispute over a parking spot ended with guns drawn and two young Muslim women thrown to the ground by police — an incident that is now the focus of a formal investigation by the Seattle Office of Police Accountability. According to the Washington chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the two women — both in their 20s and wearing hijabs — were the targets of excessive force after a man called 911 on Feb. 4 and falsely claimed the pair had a gun.

SEATTLE — Ten years ago, the heartbeat of Seattle’s Chinatown-International District was silenced. On July 23, 2015, Donnie Chin, a self-appointed community guardian and founder of the International District Emergency Center, was shot and killed while responding to reports of a shooting. Though a decade has passed, his killer remains unidentified and uncharged — leaving a community to mourn, remember, and continue the work Chin devoted his life to.
