SEATTLE — A red Dodge Charger with a “new driver” sticker on the back isn’t what most drivers expect to see in their rearview mirror during a traffic stop — but it’s one of more than 50 vehicles operated by the Washington State Patrol as part of a long-running crackdown on aggressive drivers. The teens, who were hiking the popular trail on the holiday Monday, became stranded on a rocky section known as the “Haystack,” a steep and exposed scramble near the top of the mountain. One person in the party called 911 to report they could not safely descend.

TACOMA, Wash. — Protesters from across Oregon and Washington gathered Tuesday outside the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, demanding the release of two Filipino women they said are being wrongfully held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The rally centered on Lewelyn Dixon, a former University of Washington lab technician who has been in ICE custody since February, and a second woman identified only as “Michelle” at her request.
