PHOENIX — A man died after a shooting in a Phoenix alley on Wednesday night, according to police. The adult man was found in the area of 17th Drive and Lane Avenue after police responded around 11:30 p.m. to reports of an assault and shooting, the Phoenix Police Department said. Officers found the male with at least one gunshot wound, police said. The man was brought to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead.

PHOENIX — A Tucson man on Tuesday was sentenced to eight years in prison for downloading and sharing child sexual abuse material, authorities said. A jury convicted Sergio Herran, 47, of child pornography and possession of child pornography in March, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona. The judge who sentenced him this week also ordered him to pay restitution to his victims who have been identified.

PHOENIX — Arizona forestry and fire officials will hold a remembrance ceremony to honor six firefighters who lost their lives battling the Dude Fire over 30 years ago. Bonita Creek Estates, which is northeast of Payson, will host the memorial honoring the 35th anniversary of the Dude Fire that devastated the Perryville Fire Crew. The event will start at 10 a.m. on June 26, according to the Department of Forestry and Fire Management.

PHOENIX — Officials in Chandler hope to harness solar energy to help power various public facilities. The city recently entered into a partnership with energy company Ameresco, Inc. to install solar panels across 23 city facilities, including rooftops, parking areas, fire stations, libraries and even city hall. Although the solar panels come with 25-year warranties, they’re expected to work for up to 35 years. Officials expect construction of the solar panels to be complete by 2026.

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks are stepping up to the plate to help shelter dogs find their forever homes. The local baseball team is continuing its yearslong partnership with the Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) to meet its goal. D-backs Give Back, the team’s charity arm, is launching a Slide into Love adoption special that will let adopters pay what they can to bring a furry friend home from AAWL’s two locations:The AAWL within Chandler Fashion Center at Frye and Price roads.
