A familiar name will be joining the Penn State men’s hockey program. Mac Gadowsky, son of Nittany Lions head coach Guy Gadowsky, has transferred to Penn State from Army, the team announced on Wednesday. A finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, Gadowsky was one of the nation’s top defensemen this past season. Regardless of his ties to the Nittany Lions, Gadowsky is a significant addition to a team set to carry national championship aspirations into next season.

The spring transfer portal window opened on Wednesday, and a pair of Penn State defenders have entered their names in the mix. Ta’Mere Robinson, a redshirt sophomore linebacker, and redshirt freshman cornerback Jon Mitchell are each entering the portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Robinson’s entree comes as a bit of a surprise.

Former Penn State right-hander Justin Hagenman is set to make history. Hagenman, who signed a one-year contract with the New York Mets in November, was called up ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. He would become the first player who finished his college career with the Nittany Lions to appear in a MLB game in two decades. Nate Bump was the last former Penn State player to reach the big leagues. He last pitched on July 16, 2005.
