A familiar name will be joining the Penn State men’s hockey program. Mac Gadowsky, son of Nittany Lions head coach Guy Gadowsky, has transferred to Penn State from Army, the team announced on Wednesday. A finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, Gadowsky was one of the nation’s top defensemen this past season. Regardless of his ties to the Nittany Lions, Gadowsky is a significant addition to a team set to carry national championship aspirations into next season.

The departure of Ta’Mere Robinson is set to cut the depth of an already thin Penn State linebacker corps. His exit should also give James Franklin a better idea of his options to fill the void left by last year’s starting middle linebacker Kobe King. Anthony Speca and Keon Wylie have suddenly emerged as two significant pieces to the team’s national title aspirations.

The spring transfer portal window opened on Wednesday, and a pair of Penn State defenders have entered their names in the mix. Ta’Mere Robinson, a redshirt sophomore linebacker, and redshirt freshman cornerback Jon Mitchell are each entering the portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Robinson’s entree comes as a bit of a surprise.

Former Penn State right-hander Justin Hagenman is set to make history. Hagenman, who signed a one-year contract with the New York Mets in November, was called up ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. He would become the first player who finished his college career with the Nittany Lions to appear in a MLB game in two decades. Nate Bump was the last former Penn State player to reach the big leagues. He last pitched on July 16, 2005.

It’s been nearly a month since the men’s college basketball portal opened for business, and Penn State finally hauled in its first transfer of the offseason on Tuesday. Former Cincinnati guard Josh Reed, a former three-star recruit who played the past three seasons with the Bearcats, will play his final year of eligibility with the Nittany Lions, he announced on Instagram.

Penn State is beginning to piece together its 2025-26 schedule, and a Big East opponent is expected to be a part of it. The Nittany Lions are set to play Providence at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena in November, Jon Rothstein of College Hoops Today reported on Friday. An official date has yet to be announced. The Friars become Penn State’s first known opponent for next season, but more should be announced in the coming months.

Penn State will lose a veteran offensive lineman ahead of the opening of the spring transfer portal window. JB Nelson, who was in a competition for the Nittany Lions’ starting left guard position, is no longer with the program, a team spokesperson confirmed to StateCollege.com on Friday morning. On3’s Blue-White Illustrated was the first to report Nelson’s departure. The 6-foot-5, 326-pound Nelson’s exit shakes up a deep Penn State offensive line that is, at the moment, short on a few pieces.
