Missouri City is working to make its recreational programs more accessible to residents with disabilities through programming for people with differing levels of ability. The Parks and Recreation Department first started developing the programs just before the pandemic. It's hard to say exactly how many residents participated in the programs last year, but Missouri City recreation manager Allison Vickery estimates about 50 people took advantage of the programs.

In 2007, Dorothy Kimble purchased a house in Missouri City, using the money she earned from selling her late mother's home after she passed away. At the time, Kimble was working with people with disabilities at the Gulf Coast Center. She retired in 2011. Kimble first heard about the Community Development Block Grant program while reading the newspaper.

A child died after sustaining injuries from a shooting at a Pearland flea market Sunday evening, police said. The status of another child and three other people injured during the shooting is currently unknown. Officers responded to calls about a shooting at Cole’s Flea Market, 1014 N. Main St., in Pearland around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The shooting happened after an argument between two people at the flea market escalated, Chad Rodgers, a spokesperson for the police department said.

Updated 1:45 p.m. Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the state and Brazoria County Crime Stoppers are offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in the Pearland shooting at a flea market Sunday evening. “The State of Texas is deploying our full support to local law enforcement to ensure the perpetrators of this crime are caught and brought to justice,” he said in a statement.

A Fort Bend elementary school teacher is under investigation after being accused of misconduct with students, the school district said in a statement to parents Wednesday evening. “I am writing to make you aware that allegations of inappropriate conduct have been made against a teacher,” Rhonda Mason, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools at Fort Bend Independent School District said in the statement. “I assure you Goodman Elementary and Fort Bend ISD take these matters very seriously.
