    April 16 (UPI) -- A Colorado jury convicted a Gambian national Tuesday on charges of torturing victims in The Gambia in 2006, following an attempted coup against the country's former president. Michael Sang Correa, 46, was found guilty of beating and flesh burning five victims after he suspected they had plotted against The Gambia's former president, Yahya Jammeh. It is the first conviction of a non-U.S. citizen on torture charges in a federal district court, according to the Justice Department.

    April 15 (UPI) -- The Vatican has placed Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí, dubbed "God's architect" for his work on Sagrada Família cathedral, on the path to sainthood in recognition of his "heroic virtues."Gaudí, who was a devout Catholic, was the architect of the still unfinished Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain. The cathedral, which has been under construction since 1883, was consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010 and has been listed with Unesco's World Heritage.

    April 15 (UPI) -- A top adviser to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was escorted out of the Pentagon on Tuesday and placed on administrative leave, according to a Defense official, following an investigation into leaks at the department. Dan Caldwell, a top adviser to Hegseth, was escorted out by security and had his Pentagon access suspended over an "unauthorized disclosure," the official confirmed to Politico, the Washington Examiner and BNO News.
