MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - In a press conference on Monday, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed affirmed his commitment towards moving to a city-run public school system. Nearly all of Montgomery’s public schools are within city limits, but the system as a whole has always been a county-led effort.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Bumpy roads and potholes are a common sight in some parts of Alabama’s Capitol City. The Montgomery City Council approved four resurfacing and traffic striping projects to alleviate some of those issues. Starting in North Montgomery, repaving is planned for a one mile stretch of Atlanta Highway from near Capitol Heights Middle School to Perry Hill Road. In East Montgomery, repairs are also planned for Vaughn Road from near the Eastern Boulevard to Zelda Road.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - When Debra Marshall saw a mugshot of 41-year-old Corrace Calloway in connection with a rape at Montgomery’s Blount Cultural Park, it brought back unsettling memories. Why? Less than seven years ago, Calloway killed her daughter Selina Powell. “He left out of the bedroom window in my house and went to her job and they got in an altercation and he ended up stabbing her and throwing her out the window,” Marshall recalled.

The United States has seen the most reported child flu deaths in 2025 (216) since the swine flu pandemic in 2009-2010, and there’s still seven months to go. “Influenza deaths are preventable in so many cases, and so we just really hate to see numbers like this,” said Dr. Scott Harris, an infectious disease expert that serves as a State Health Officer with the Alabama Department of Public Health.
