    After putting together an hour-long comedy sketch in the span of a month, Marissa Comstock takes a bow of pride as the full-house audience applauds her and her castmates’ performance in the “Freshman Fifteen” show on Friday, Feb. 28. The first-year comedy major broke new ground for the college’s School of Theatre and Dance when she pitched, directed and head-wrote “Freshman Fifteen,” a 15-act comedy sketch written, directed and performed by about 15 first-year students.

    The college celebrated its founding in 1890 with an anniversary event on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in the Conaway Center at 1104 S. Wabash Ave. The celebration featured trivia, guest speakers and the unveiling of a mural made by Columbia alum Mac McGuire, an illustration major who graduated in 2024. The college started as the Columbia School of Oratory by Mary A. Blood and Ida Morey Riley in 1890. It became the Columbia College of Expression in 1927 and then in 1944 was renamed Columbia College.

En la primera reunión del semestre de Alianza Latina, la organización estudiantil de Columbia que provee un espacio para los estudiantes latinos, el miembro Angle Katana, estudiante de escritura creativa de tercer año, estaba emocionado de regresar a las actividades y la comunidad.
